Dad Opens Up About His Son’s Condition Following a Chiropractic Visit

Ten years after a chiropractic visit changed his life forever, Jonathan Buckelew continues to fight with remarkable strength.

In October 2015, the then-24-year-old suffered a stroke during an appointment in Georgia. Tragically, doctors did not identify

it in time, and after hours without proper treatment, Jonathan developed locked-in syndrome — a rare condition leaving

him fully conscious but unable to move or speak, except through slight eye movements.

Today, his father, Jack Buckelew, remains by his side, helping coordinate 24-hour care alongside dedicated nurses.

“He wants to do things and go places,” Jack said, describing Jonathan’s determination and the inspiration he brings to everyone around him.

In the years since, the family has transformed their home, built a skilled care team, and learned to communicate through eye-tracking technology

and blinks. Though accepting the reality was painful, Jack chose to focus on giving Jonathan the best possible life rather than dwelling on anger.

Marking a decade since the stroke, the Buckelews are turning hardship into purpose. Jack now advocates for stroke

awareness and faster emergency recognition, hoping others can avoid similar outcomes. Through faith, patience,

and love, their story stands as a powerful reminder of hope, resilience, and the enduring strength of family.
